Plein-air exhibition in May

Over the last 12 months a great deal of time has been spent outside the studio capturing the Gippsland landscape. I paint and draw with a varied group of fellow artists who suggest sites and provide companionship on these expeditions.

The works created are quite a leap from my deliberate linocuts and allow me an ‘in the moment’ conversation with the environment. I’ve been using acrylic paints on paper and a beautiful old easel gifted by Lurline, a family friend whose artist husband Brian passed away. Each time I unfold the intricate easel I utter a quiet thanks.

The materials I choose are dictated by the weather,  the amount of time I have, and my mood. If it’s too hot or windy for paints I scratch a drypoint etching landscape onto a salvaged tetra pack container, taking it back to the studio to print later. Other times I’ll pack pencils and ink.

A group exhibition of my works and some of my fellow artists is planned at WAS Gallery in Warragul May 18th – July 13th.

Opening reception: Saturday 18th May from 2 to 4pm
